17. ಆಗ ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನು ಅಡ್ಡಬಿದ್ದು ನಕ್ಕು-ನೂರು ವರುಷ ದವನಿಗೆ ಮಗುವು ಹುಟ್ಟುವದುಂಟೇ? ತೊಂಭತ್ತು ವರುಷದವಳಾದ ಸಾರಳು ಹೆರುವದುಂಟೇ ಎಂದು ತನ್ನ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡನು.

17. ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನು ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಸಾಷ್ಟಾಂಗನಮಸ್ಕಾರ ಮಾಡಿದನು. ಆದರೆ ಅವನು ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಗುತ್ತಾ, “ನನಗೆ ನೂರು ವರ್ಷ ವಯಸ್ಸಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಮಗನನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ನನಗೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಾರಳಿಗೆ ತೊಂಭತ್ತು ವರ್ಷ ವಯಸ್ಸಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಮಗನನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ಆಕೆಗೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ” ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡನು.
