5. ಆಗ ಹಡಗಿನವರು ಭಯಪಟ್ಟು ಒಬ್ಬೊಬ್ಬನು ತನ್ನ ತನ್ನ ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಕೂಗಿ ಹಡಗನ್ನು ಹಗುರ ಮಾಡುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಸಾಮಾನುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕಿಬಿಟ್ಟರು; ಆದರೆ ಯೋನನು ಹಡಗಿನ ಒಳಗೆ ಇಳಿದುಹೋಗಿ ಮಲಗಿಕೊಂಡು ಗಾಢ ನಿದ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದ್ದನು.
