8:20. ಸರ್ವಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯು ನಿರರ್ಥಕತೆಗೆ ಒಳಗಾಯಿತು. ಹೀಗಾದದ್ದು ಅದರ ಸ್ವಂತ ಇಚ್ಛೆಯಿಂದಲ್ಲ, ದೇವರ ಇಚ್ಛೆಯಿಂದಲೇ. ಆದರೂ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿತ್ತು. ಅದೇನಂದರೆ:

8:20. ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯು ವ್ಯರ್ಥತ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾದದ್ದು ಸ್ವೇಚ್ಛೆಯಿಂದಲ್ಲ, ಅದನ್ನು ಒಳಪಡಿಸಿದಾತನ ಮುಖಾಂ ತರ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ.

8:20. For the creation was subjected to futility— not willingly but because of God who subjected it— in hope

8:20. Everything God made was allowed to become like something that cannot fulfill its purpose. That was not its choice, but God made it happen with this hope in view:
