4:9. ಸಮಾರ್ಯದ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯು, “ಕುಡಿಯುವ ನೀರಿಗಾಗಿ ನೀನು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ನನಗೆ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಉಂಟುಮಾಡಿದೆ! ನೀನಾದರೊ ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯನು. ನಾನಾದರೊ ಸಮಾರ್ಯದವಳು!” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದಳು. (ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರು ಸಮಾರ್ಯದವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸ್ನೇಹದಿಂದಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.)

4:9. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಆ ಸಮಾ ರ್ಯದ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯು ಆತನಿಗೆ--ನೀನು ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯನಾಗಿದ್ದು ಕುಡಿಯುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಡು ಎಂದು ಸಮಾರ್ಯದ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯಾದ ನನ್ನಿಂದ ಕೇಳುವದು ಹೇಗೆ? ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರು ಸಮಾರ್ಯದವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೊಕ್ಕು ಬಳಿಕೆ ಮಾಡುವದಿಲ್ಲವಲ್ಲಾ ಅಂದಳು.

4:9. So the Samaritan woman said to him, "How can you— a Jew— ask me, a Samaritan woman, for water to drink?" (For Jews use nothing in common with Samaritans.)

4:9. The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, "You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?"
