1:1. ಊಚ್ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಬನೆಂಬ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿದ್ದನು. ಅವನು ದೇವರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಯಭಕ್ತಿಯುಳ್ಳವನಾಗಿದ್ದನು; ಕೆಟ್ಟಕಾರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡದೆ ನಿರ್ದೋಷಿಯೂ ಯಥಾರ್ಥವಂತನೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದನು.

1:1. ಊಚ್‌ ಎಂಬ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಇದ್ದನು. ಅವನ ಹೆಸರು ಯೋಬ. ಆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣನೂ ಯಥಾರ್ಥನೂ ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಭಯಪಡುವವನೂ ಕೇಡನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ತೊಲ ಗುವವನೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದನು.
